The Florida Citrus Bowl also offers accommodations for up to 100 people through their Dex Imaging Skyline Club. In addition, patrons are subject to inspection by security personnel at any time. The stadium has strict rules on what can and cannot be brought into the stadium. Auburn made their first appearance in the bowl game in 1982 the final year of the Tangerine Bowl namesake. 1982: Auburn 33, Boston College 26: 1981: Missouri 19, So Mississippi 17: 1980: Florida 35, Maryland 20: 1979: LSU 34, Wake Forest 10: 1978: No Carolina St 30, Pittsburgh 17: 1977: Florida St 40. Few bowl games have such a rich history of name changes as the Orlando-based fruit-named bowl. Back then, it was named the Tangerine Bowl and was renamed the Florida Citrus Bowl in 1983. Famous musicians such as Paul McCartney, Van Halen, the Rolling Stones, and Cheap Trick have performed concerts at the Florida Citrus Bowl. In addition, the stadium has been the site of movies, television shows, and many concerts. Not all of it was elite football-playing talent. But in between, in late 1972, 20,072 attendees witnessed a strangely awesome amalgamation of elite talent. Major events such as the Capital One Bowl, Champs Sports Bowl, East-West Shrine Game, Florida Classic, MEAC/SWAC Challenge, Monster Jam, and the 1994 FIFA World Cup have taken place at the arena. In the years after 1972, the Tangerine Bowl became an annual home for Miami (Ohio) to defeat local power conference teams Florida in 1973, Georgia in 1974, South Carolina in 1975. The current name has been in place since 1983. Subsequent names include the Tangerine Bowl from 1947 to 1975, the Citrus Bowl 1976, and the Orlando Stadium 1977 to 1982. ![]() Originally named the Orlando Stadium, it was constructed in 1936 as part of Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration Project.
